Just because it's summer doesn't mean you have to wear yellow.
i have been dreaming of roomier trousers to help the summer pass more quickly.
Here are a few inspiration pictures of what i'm after.

A few weeks ago, while trying to find out more than i already know about the incredible Isabella Blow (stylist and nurturer of fresh young talent) i found these amazing images of her Belgravia apartment, which went up for sale last year, according to Times Online.
The spaces she created were incredible and bear such an intense likeness to who she was. I am a huge fan of people when they are able to expand their ideas and point of view into every aspect of their lives. Ms Blow has done so with seeming ease, as her apartment is clearly an extension of herself.
I particularly enjoy the way she incorporates wearable objects into the spaces elevating them beyond headpieces into the realm of artworks...an idea I have been shouting about for a long time. Why should beautiful objects that can be used not be proudly displayed while not being used? They are no less beautiful perched upon a shelf.
I'll stop clumsily jumbling your mind with misguided words and let the pictures do the talking.

This year, I have been increasingly compelled to think about interiors.
I don't know why, but it just happened. My illustrations have also, for the most part, evolved from being about just a person and what they are wearing to a person, their clothes and the spaces they like to occupy.
These thoughts have only cemented the idea that I am not going to be comfortable cemented into a one track career in architecture, but will most likely seek a position in one of the increasing number of "think tanks" that experiment in various fields of design to create an overall lifestyle aesthetic.

One such designer that recently caught my eye is Karen Lockhart. This New Zealander who has designed all of Karen Walker's boutiques, and assist with creative direction for Walker's line of jewellery also, has a particularly fresh aesthetic displayed through her foray into interiors, styling, and much much more.

I particularly enjoy the juxtaposition of playfulness with darker imagery, at times heightened by her use of colour. It adds a level of maturity and sophistication without losing that sense of childish curiosity that so many designers I love express.
I also really like the choices she makes in terms of colour. Never dull yet never overstated.

I hope she needs an assistant......(pick me!)

Here are a few samples from her website that really strike a chord.

The Mo-Dettes are one of my all time favourite bands. I spent so long trying to find some of their vinyl a year or two ago and then finally got my hands on some at Egg Records in Newtown.
They're one of the first all girl punk bands from the 80s.
Completely amazing.
Apparently Kurt Cobain was a fan of their music and attempted to re-release their music.

I'm sure everyone's has probably already seen, but Courtney Love's performance at the Alexander Wang after party was so good!
She played Malibu, and covered Bette Davis Eyes.
She is also looking very healthy, and i can't wait to hear her new material.
Anyway, click below to hear.

I thought it was a given that everyone loved Hole/Courtney Love, but the more i talk to, the more i realise it's not the case. BUT THEY SHOULD!

In other amazing music star news, Amy Winehouse has previewed new songs to record executives who have come out and admitted they were "flawed" by how good they were.
SO EXCITED!
New Album is expected next year...sometime....maybe,,,,

I felt as though it was time for me to upgrade on the spectacle front, so naturally, Googling Oliver Peoples felt like a good place to start....AND BOY, WAS IT!

Throughout high school i never had spectacles and was always terribly jealous of all the international students that would arrive at school after vacationing in Hong Kong with new pairs of clear framed glasses.
Then, after finding out a my personal hero, Andy Warhol had a pair, I knew i definitely needed some.
So, today, i found out that Oliver Peoples offers a pair in a kind of rounded Wayfarer shape called Sheldrake. And I, for one, think they are perfect! The product description on Peoples' site even notes Warhol as an influence to their design.

My attraction to transparency does not end here, no, no, no, dear!
My architectural idol Kazuyo Sejima has long explored transparency through her architecture and extends the idea to further exploring how the reflections of transparent surfaces can be used in order to distort what the viewer can see in turn creating a kind of abstract privacy, such as in the Toledo Glass Museum, whose curvy glass walls throw reflections of the outside park and interior activities onto eachother creating a distorted moasaic of colour and light.

The idea of transparency has also transferred into an obsession with fabrics that are less than opaque. Ideal for layering, they prove to add a lightness and a bi of a provocative edge without the need to bare any skin. It's something that i have toyed with quite extensively throughout my illustrations for the past year or more, and seems to be quite a predominant trend for S/S 10.

Back to Oliver Peoples...his 2010 campaign looks so amazing. It features Shirley Manson (of Garbage fame) and Elijah Wood (of Hobbit fame)
I never would have thought these two would work so well together, but it looks amazing, and their collective quirk is well in sync with Oliver Peoples' brand, in my opinion.
Here are a few preview pics from Peoples' site. Apparently there's a short movie that goes with them and should be released soon. I can't wait, it will be stunning!

So, on Thursday night i went to see La Roux.
Yes, Mercury Prize nominee, La Roux who released what was and still remains one of my favourite albums of the year. So naturally, the expectations were high.
Unfortunately, the show was a little flat, with La Roux styled a little more casually than i had anticipated, the crowd being more pedestrian than anticipated, and the show generally not having the high highs and the low low that make a show dynamic and memorable.
I hesitated posting earlier, because I needed to mull over everything that happened, including several slip ups during the show that elude to miming.
All this aside, La Roux still put out an amazing album, and it's only their first, so hopefully they will get better with time at delivering the tunes live.

(AND i still want a Kate Moross La Roux silhouette t-shirt. There was NO merch at all for sale at the show)

does anyone know when more will be available??
